Every claim about another vendor comes from that vendor's own public product and pricing pages, its published case studies and its app store listings, reviewed in mid-2026. Claims about GridShot come from our own product.

We have not run a hands-on head-to-head test. Nobody here has pushed the same garment through all six tools and scored the results, so this page compares what each product says it does — not how well it does it. A benchmark with identical garments, identical prompts and every raw output published is planned; until it exists, read the table as a capability map, not a quality ranking.

Products in this category change monthly. Confirm current plans, rates and features directly with each vendor before you decide — and where a cell says a detail is not stated, that means we could not find it publicly, not that the product lacks it.

Generates on-model photos from flat-lay or mannequin shots, one image at a time, with a Shopify App Store integration and subscription plans that include monthly photo and video credits. Botika's own materials cite more than 3,000 brands on the platform.

Best for: Occasional on-model images at low volume, where a monthly credit plan works out cheaper than paying per image.

A customer-facing try-on widget that runs live on the retailer's own site: shoppers pick a model close to their own body type (Switch Model) and combine pieces (Mix & Match). Founded in Paris with a $7.5M seed round and a New York office since 2025; publicly named clients include Eileen Fisher and La Redoute.

Best for: Large retailers who want the try-on to happen on the product page rather than in their photo production.

FASHN.ai

A developer-first try-on API with Virtual Try-On, Product-to-Model and Model Swap endpoints, returning one image per call in 5–17 seconds from $0.075. Reported by the company to be trained on 18 million try-on examples, and strong at preserving prints, text and logos.

Best for: Engineering teams building their own try-on feature, where the raw per-image rate matters more than a finished interface.

Vue.ai

One of the longest track records here (built by Mad Street Den): On-Model Imagery, a Virtual Dressing Room and a Shopify App Store listing. Its own PICARD case study reports a 65% conversion increase, a 22% reduction in returns and a 75% cut in photoshoot costs. Company positioning has since broadened into a general enterprise AI platform.

Best for: Large retailers already comfortable running an enterprise vendor implementation.

Not a tool — the default alternative

Or you prompt an image model yourself

The most common alternative to all six products is not a product at all: opening ChatGPT or Gemini and describing the shot. It works, and GridShot runs on the same class of image models. What it does not do is remember your catalog, hold a garment to its real length, or keep the model consistent across a collection.

When another tool is the better choice

GridShot produces catalog photography. That is a narrower job than "AI for fashion", and these five situations are genuinely better served elsewhere.

You need a live widget on your product page

If shoppers should pick a model who resembles them while browsing, that is Veesual's Switch Model or Vue.ai's Virtual Dressing Room. GridShot generates the photos your team publishes; it does not render a different model per visitor in real time.

You have engineers and want to build the interface yourself

FASHN.ai's API starts at $0.075 per image and drops to roughly $0.04–$0.05 at volume. If you are buying only the generation and building batching, review and publishing yourself, that is hard to beat on raw cost.

Your photos exist and just need to be better

Upscaling, HDR, background swaps and marketplace-format batches are Claid.ai's core competence, not ours. The same applies if fashion is only one of several product categories you handle.

You publish only a handful of images a month

At very low volume a credit-based subscription such as Botika's can come out ahead of a per-image fee. Run the numbers on the images you actually published last quarter.

You need a procurement process, not a signup form

Vue.ai and Veesual are built around enterprise implementation projects with security reviews, contracts and a rollout plan. GridShot is self-serve — an advantage right up until your organisation requires it not to be.

Prepaid vs. subscription: the arithmetic

This category mixes three incompatible pricing shapes. Comparing the headline numbers directly is how teams end up overpaying.

Prepaid, per published image

GridShot charges $1 for each image you publish plus the actual AI compute for that image — typically a few cents. New accounts start with $10 in credit. You are billed for finished images, not for a plan or a seat.

Monthly plans with included credits

Botika and the consumer tiers of FASHN.ai bill a monthly fee with an allowance attached. Your effective cost per image is that fee divided by the images you actually published that month — not by the quota printed on the plan.

The break-even question

A $99 monthly plan, to take a round number, only beats $1 per image once you publish more than 99 images that month. Use last quarter's real published count, not your intended one: unused monthly credits are the most common hidden cost in this category.

API rates are not the same product

FASHN.ai's $0.075 buys one API call. GridShot's $1 buys a published image chosen from a grid of 16–25 candidates, with the studio, the store import and the post-generation edits around it. Compare an API rate against your engineering time, not against a finished workflow.

Where your data actually sits

GridShot is a German company, and hosting and data storage run in German data centres. Image generation itself calls US AI services, so we do not describe the pipeline as EU-only — if strict EU-only processing is a hard requirement, ask us before you sign up rather than after. For the other five tools we could not find a documented storage location on their public pages; ask each vendor directly.

No. This comparison is built from each vendor's public product and pricing pages plus our own product knowledge — we have not pushed the same garment through all six tools and scored the output. A hands-on benchmark with identical garments and every raw image published is planned, and we will say so clearly on this page once it exists.

How does GridShot's pricing compare to a subscription?

GridShot charges $1 per published image plus the actual compute cost, with $10 of credit to start and no monthly fee. A subscription is cheaper per image only if you reliably use the whole allowance; below that you are paying for credits you did not spend. Compare against the number of images you actually published last quarter.
